Mark Poynton at the Toolshed@W2

We welcomed Michelin acclaimed Chef Mark Poynton of MJP Restaurants into the Toolshed in June as part of our series of Chef Takeover’s ahead of him opening his new restaurant in Cambridge City Centre. Mark and his team were running a number of exclusive events so that a select group of friends and customers can be involved in the journey and the intimate feel of the Toolshed in the heart of London was the ideal match for his next event.

Mark Poynton started his culinary career aged 15 working part-time as a waiter in the Queen Hotel Chester. Within six months he’d moved into the kitchen under executive chef Ian McDowall.

He then undertook an 18 month stint with Paul Kitching at the Juniper restaurant in Altrincham, followed by seven years with two Michelin-starred Daniel Clifford at Midsummer House in Cambridge.

In 2009, Mark took his first head chef position up the road at Alimentum, taking over the business in 2010 and held a Michelin star and three AA rosettes for five years as well as appearances on the BBC’s Great British Menu.

Guests, on the evening were treat to a 6 course tasting menu, which included Cod Pastrami, Lamp Rump (supplied by Udale Speciality Foods) as well as Lancashire Bomb ‘Rarebit’ along with specially selected pared wines.
